This module provides specialist training in the assessment of permanent impairment of the upper extremity in accordance with Chapter 2 of the NSW Workers Compensation Guidelines for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 4th Edition (the Guidelines) and Chapter 16 of the American Medical Association's Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fifth Edition (AMA5). Participants will develop an understanding of the principles, processes and methodologies used to assess upper extremity impairment arising from work-related injury.
This module provides a systematic approach to assessing upper extremity impairment using the NSW Guidelines and AMA5. Participants will learn how to assess impairment of the shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, hand and fingers, determine whole person impairment (WPI), and apply key assessment principles through practical case studies and worked examples.

Objectives
This module provides:
- An understanding of the key principles for assessing upper extremity impairment in accordance with AMA5 and the NSW Workers Compensation Guidelines.
- A systematic approach to assessing permanent impairment of the shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, hand and fingers.
- An understanding of the assessment methodologies used for upper extremity impairment, including range of motion, peripheral nerve disorders and other upper extremity conditions.
- An understanding of how to calculate and report whole person impairment (WPI) for upper extremity injuries using the Guidelines.
