This module provides specialist training in the assessment of permanent impairment of the nervous system in accordance with Sections 6.156 to 6.176 of the NSW Motor Accident Guidelines: Permanent Impairment (the Guidelines) and Chapter 4 of the American Medical Association's Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fourth Edition (AMA4). Participants will develop an understanding of the principles, processes and methodologies used to assess nervous system impairment arising from motor accident injuries.
This module provides a systematic approach to assessing nervous system impairment using the Guidelines and AMA4. Participants will learn how to assess impairments affecting the brain, spinal cord, cranial nerves and peripheral nervous system, determine whole person impairment (WPI), and apply key assessment principles through practical case studies and worked examples.

Objectives
This module provides:
- An understanding of the key principles for assessing nervous system impairment in accordance with AMA4 and the NSW Motor Accident Guidelines.
- A systematic approach to assessing permanent impairment of the central and peripheral nervous system.
- An understanding of the role of causation, threshold injury and stability when undertaking nervous system impairment assessments.
- An understanding of how to determine and report whole person impairment (WPI) for nervous system injuries using the Guidelines.
