Prerequisite

Successful completion of the Core Module is required before enrolling in this specialist body system module.

This module provides specialist training in the assessment of permanent impairment of the respiratory system in accordance with Sections 6.229–6.232 of the NSW Motor Accident Guidelines: Permanent Impairment (the Guidelines) and Chapter 5 of the American Medical Association's Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fourth Edition (AMA4). Participants will develop an understanding of the principles, processes and methodologies used to assess respiratory impairment arising from motor accident injuries.

Designed for health practitioners seeking authorisation and listing as Permanent Impairment Assessors in the NSW CTP scheme, this module provides a systematic approach to assessing respiratory impairment using the Guidelines and AMA4. Participants will learn how to assess respiratory impairment arising from asthma, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, pneumoconiosis, lung cancer and obstructive sleep apnoea, determine whole person impairment (WPI), and apply key assessment principles through practical examples and case studies.

Successful completion of this module, together with successful completion of the Core Module, contributes to eligibility for listing as a CTP Permanent Impairment Assessor for respiratory system impairment assessments in NSW.
